FAIRS OF INDIA – VAUTHA FAIR

This Vautha fair is held during Kartika Purnima (the full moon night of the month of Kartik) according to the Hindu Calendar, it lasts for five days. The magnificent Vautha Fair is held every year at Vautha place, where the two rivers, the Sabarmati and the Vatrak river meet.

Many thousands of donkeys and camels are brought here for the largest animal fair in Gujarat, where they are traded on the fair grounds at the sangam tirtha(place). People generally arrive here on tractors, buses, camels, jeeps and other variety means of transport.

This is the trading fair, with a variety of handicraft and food stalls, and many active street like hawkers and merchants selling everything from trinkets to machinery design. At the end of the day many small lamps are set afloat in the river by devout pilgrims, that produce a little shimmering beauty on water.
