Janmashtami is a hi Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Krishna.this festival is also known as Krishnashtami, Gokulashtami, Srikrishna Jayanti, Shree Jayanthi, sometimes merely as Janmashtami also. This festival always falls within August to September. Lord krishna was the eighth child of Vasudev and Devaki.
Krishna Janmashtami is observed on the Ashtami tithi, the eight day of the dark half or Krishna Paksha of the month of Bhadrapada in the Hindu Calendar, when the Rohini Nakshatra is ascendant.
The pooja is Organized late in the evening, timed according to the Hindu Panchang. The birth of Lord Krishna happened at midnight. Generally, most of the sweets and Home made Food are prepared on that day. On this Day ladies make rangoli and the Krishna Footprint out side the door,drawn specially for the occasion.
Rasa lila, dramatic enactments of the life of Krishna, are a special feature in regions of Mathura and Vrindavan. While the Rasa lila re-creates the aspects of Krishna’s youthful days, the Dahi mataki celebrates the birth of the Avatar where teams of young men form man pyramids to reach a high-hanging pot of maakhan and break it.
