FESTIVALS OF INDIA – ONAM
Onam is the biggest festival in the Indian state of Kerala. It is a festival during the first month of the Malayalam calendar which is Chingam (August–September). Every year the visit of Mahabali, is celebrated as Onam.
The Onam Festival lasts for ten days and is linked to many elements of Kerala’s culture. In this Festival women decorate their homes and make flower carpets for a banquet lunch, traditional game is the snake boat races, traditional dance is Kaikottik kali dance and Puli Kali dance.
According to this festival, Kerala witnessed its golden era during the reign of Raja Mahabali.
